Lee Jones recognizes the significant contributions of older Americans and he is committed to making sure America supports older Americans just as they have supported America. As Senator, Lee Jones will work on behalf of older Kansans by committing to:
- Keep the promise of Social Security intact by resisting any efforts to privatize Social Security, increase the eligibility age or reduce Social Security benefits
- Provide families with additional opportunities to save for retirement
- Safeguard Medicare and increase access to healthcare for older Americans
- Protect the rights of older Americans
Some people in Washington act as though Social Security is near death. However Lee Jones knows that Social Security will remain solvent for the retiring Baby Boomers and beyond if managed effectively. Lee is committed to maintaining all benefits for retirees while ensuring that Social Security will not be bankrupted by private accounts.
To maintain Social Security, Lee Jones will legislate for the removal of the Social Security earnings cap and work to make all income, not merely wages, subject to Social Security taxes. Lee Jones will also work to relieve the burden on lower income workers by eliminating the first few thousand dollars in income from taxation while still counting that income in calculations for Social Security benefits.
Lee Jones will also work to support Americans who seek to supplement Social Security with additional savings opportunities. As Senator, Lee Jones will support portable retirement accounts that can be transferred from job to job and Lee will work to establish incentives that encourage workers and employers to invest wisely in employee retirement accounts.
